How do you deal with difficult people?
Its all those things that make them difficult. Their methods, opinions, speed and approach. The way they go about getting things done or undone is different to how they should be done or undone.
Difficult is always bad.
Different can be bad or good.
From difficult to different creates a little bit of space. It doesnt have to be a lot, we dont need to agree. But there is space for me to accept this is a very different person.
Asking all the wrong questions
What are the questions I should be asking?
We all heard we get judged by the questions we ask not answers we give. There are whole lot of clues in the questions we ask.
Asking others can be good.
Asking yourself before you ask others is better.
What do I need them to take away? How can I lead them to it? How can I get them enrolled?
We’ve heard it all before
What’s up with you needing me to be motivated?
I am all up for trying things every now and then, but let’s be honest, we heard it all before. It's a little forced and not at all exciting.
I can play ‘motivated’ if it’s my ‘motivation’ you are after.
Helpful is what I really am.
I will back you so you don't have to loose face in front of me and all those people watching. I am humble, kind, human. Instead of motivating, if you can be transparent so I can be helpful.
Zooming in and out
First impressions count but do we understand things when we first encounter them?
Naturally we lean in to discover more. With time and enough detail we feel like we understand it and it feels good. We have control and comfort. Did we understand or did it became familiar and easier to look at? Was it understanding or comfort we were after?
We want to get close so we can fully understand it.
We need to move away so we can see it clearly.
Moving away is hard because we made it our own. But we can't deny that it gets us closer to seeing things for what they are, not what we want them to be.
