Zooming in and out

First impressions count but do we understand things when we first encounter them?

Naturally we lean in to discover more. With time and enough detail we feel like we understand it and it feels good. We have control and comfort. Did we understand or did it become familiar and easier to look at? Was it understanding or comfort we were after?

We want to get close so we can fully understand it.

We need to move away so we can see it clearly.

Moving away is hard because we made it our own. But we can't deny that it gets us closer to seeing things for what they are, not what we want them to be.
